I am the wife of one and the mother of four.
Sometimes I feel like the wife of none and the mother of five.
(Just kidding honey.)
I take care of the kids, my husband, myself, the house and now a dog as well. I volunteer at the local elementary school each week. My sister and I run the reflections program at said school every fall. I am the 1st counselor in the Relief Society Presidency and take my family to church each week, well at least the ones that are not sick. With the help of my siblings we take care of our parents whose health is...well, not the best. I always joke that between the two of them they don't make one healthy person. It is funny because it is true. I work full time, with my husband running two care facilities for the developmentally disabled. Have I forgotten anything?
Anyway, lately I have had a lot of people ask me,
"How do you do it all?"
My answer to that question is, I don't do it "all."
I "do" what has to be done.
I usually only make my bed once a week when I change the sheets. My house is usually messy. (I would like to clarify there is a difference between messy and dirty. Messy means shoes, coats, backpacks, toys, blankets, etc., always on the floor, but can be quickly cleaned up if everyone would just stop being messy for 5 minutes. Dirty is grimy, sticky, yucky.) I do the laundry as needed. I do the dished as needed. The vacuuming is done weekly, not daily which is what is needed. I rarely iron, much to the dismay of my husband. I try to go to work between 9am & 5pm, but can get more done between 5pm and 9pm when Merlin is home and can take care of the kids. We have cereal for dinner at least once a week. I don't exercise as much as I should because I will not sacrifice my sleep for the elliptical machine.
Sometimes I feel like I am running around like a chicken with its head cut off, but honestly, I don't know any other way. If I am not busy I am worried that I have forgotten to do something.
So I may look like I do it all (or maybe I don't and I am only fooling myself), but I don't do it all.
You are welcome to come over and visit anytime, just give me 10 minutes notice so I can clean up the mess.

You forgot being an amazing seamstress and that besides cereal, your kids get all the raw bacon they like.
You are amazing to me. I think my life is busy and I don't even have a job outside the home. By the way, You do have 5 children. 4 of them are beautiful. LOL!
Amen, sista :) I totally agree that messy and dirty are worlds apart and more people need to realize that difference. :)
It's amazing how the body works, we cand be dead tired but still able to get what needs to be done, done.
