Does this taste funny?

The other night I made microwave caramel popcorn. After the kids went to bed we turned out the lights to watch Survivor and finish off the popcorn. Thankfully Merlin got up to get a glass of water (my recipe calls for a cube of butter and a lot of sugar.) I really needed a drink to wash it down, so I asked Merlin for a sip of his water. I took a drink and thought "this tastes funny, I wonder if the water softener is messed up." I took another sip and thought "there must be too much butter in my recipe, it's leaving a weird aftertaste in my mouth." So finally I said to Merlin, "This water tastes funny." He looked at me like I was a complete idiot and said, "that's because it's milk."
